"Alec"

He wasn't the one everyone said I should have gotten, but he was the only one I wanted. And by god he was exactly what I needed in my life. Alec stepped into the conformation ring perhaps a handful of times in his life, and while he had an absolute ball any time he was the center of attention, that wasn't the domain he was most successful in.

His most notable achievements were quite simply - and perhaps most nobly - in the field of being "mine". He was bright, loving, intelligent, reliable, eager, sensitive and resilient. He approached life with pure intentions and only the best expectations. He never met a stranger in the 5 years he spent on this earth, only new friends who he needed to make up for lost time with.

It didn't take losing him to know what I had - I was completely aware the entire time, and sang praises to his temperament and personality often. He contained the best parts of an era I myself wasn't a part of in the history of Border Collies where confidence without arrogance was the norm, and stability was one of the first adjectives that came to mind.

 

He was, and always will be, my complete and utter joy.

It was an immense privilege to share even a too-short time with him.
